Stories from Home Dance Pajarito Displayed at the Mal Aire Exhibition in Albuquerque, NM
The Mal Aire exhibition, which opened on September 12th at the South Broadway Cultural Center, showcased a powerful array of artistic voices, including Yvonne Montoya's Pajarito, a dance excerpt from Stories from Home.
Co-curated by Augustine Romero and Myrriah Gómez from the University of New Mexico, the exhibition examined the implications of "bad air" in both cultural and environmental contexts.
Montoya’s Pajarito was prominently featured, exploring the multigenerational impact on the effects of the atomic age on one family. The photograph and video essay displayed invited viewers to engage with the narrative of the dance, illustrating the connection between personal stories and broader societal issues.
The exhibition highlighted the work of 19 artists, including notable names like David D. Agostino and Nanibah Chacon. Their contributions explored the environmental pollution that impacts health and well-being, emphasizing the importance of collective healing through art.
Mal Aire was on view until October 19th, offering visitors the chance to reflect on how our environments shape our identities and health. This exhibition served as a vital reminder of the ongoing conversations surrounding environmental awareness and cultural healing through artistic expression.
