Braceros staged at Urban Bush Women's SLI Opening Performance
I am honored to have been invited to present work at Urban Bush Women's Summer Leadership Institute Opening Performance taking place Saturday July 21, 2018 in Tempe, AZ.
Five dancers will be performing a re-imaged version of my piece "Braceros" created in in loving memory of my dad Juan "Johnny" Montoya Sena. The dance reflects the time he worked as a Bracero, a migrant farm worker, picking watermelon and cantaloupe in the fields of Southern Arizona and Southern California in the early 1960s.
Thank you Urban Bush Women for supporting the work featuring themes and aesthetics of the Southwest.
